A day of veg food at Johor Bahru

Today, I went to Malaysia (just over the causeway at johor bahru) for a day. Bought some Indian deep-fried fritters from a coffee shop. It was still hot and pretty good.

Later, we visited city square for lunch. There is a food court in city square which serves resonably priced vegetarian food (cheap if you earn you money in Singapore and spent it in Malaysia). I ordered 2 veggies + 1 vegetarian "meat" + rice for RM4.50. You get to take ur veggies or "meat" yourself, so if you eat more you can take more. Do take note that the veg food stall is ovo-lacto. The food court is "hidden" in the shopping mall. You have to take the lift or escalator right up to the top floor. From there walk around until you find a "concealed" escalator leading up to the cinema. The food court is at the same level as the cinema.

Shopping at city square would also mean buying dinner back to Singapore at the vegetarian stall just outside the mall. Don't go there for dinner, they will be closed by then! We went there around mid-afternoon and they were already cleaning up. This vegetarian stall has good tasting nasi lemak - do ask them to give you egg-free nasi lemak if you don't take eggs. They also serve several vegetarian chinese buns which is good for the buck. A wholemeal bun is RM2.30 while a plain bun is slightly cheaper I think. Inside you will find mock meat and a mushroom. It's big and VERY filling. Don't buy too much or you will be sick of it :D. We also found out today that they sell pre-steamed versions of these buns. They sell it to you cheaper if you buy the pre-steamed buns (a pack of 6 buns). This stall is also hard to find if you are not familiar with the area. From city square go to level 2. At one of the corners, there is a corridor leading out (take note there's another corridor leading out from the other corner where you will see a newspaper stand - this is NOT the correct one). Follow the corridor and you will come to the overhead bridge leading to the custom, don't go to the overhead bridge. Instead, turn right and you will find the vegetarian food stall.
