An interview, volunteering, and veg food

This morning I went for an interview, and somehow the interview went into the topic of vegetarianism. The usual questions were asked - like why I became a vegetarian and was it because of religion? I told the interviewer that religion did influence me, but it's mainly ethics - animal rights. I realised that people can be very understanding if you tell them it's religious, environmental etc. reasons, but when it comes to ethics and animal rights you can immediately sense some unusual reactions. Anyway, we go on about the vegetarian topic and I mentioned the word "omnivore", which the interviewer didn't really like haha... to us it's like a normal expression used everyday, "omnivore", "herbivore", "carnivore" etc., but better not try it on the omnivores next time :) I guess by now you can probably understand why I have not landed in a job hahaha..

In the afternoon I went to the vegetarian exhibition at Tampines regional library, there weren't a lot of people since it's a weekday and raining. In the late afternoon, people were still sitting on the floor watching the videos on veg, but later in the evening, not many people stood around and watch. We got a lot of positive feedback, just like the previous library exhibition. People were again curious as to how the poster of a chicken with "blood" dripping from it's neck work. One of the kids were actually wondering if that was real blood (it's paint actually). Another girl went to touch the drops of "blood" dripping from the chicken.

I had dinner at Just Greens vegetarian stall inside the S11 food court. Just simple mix-vegetable rice for SGD$3.50. Stir-fried Kai lan, stir-fried bitter gourd, and vegetarian "intestine" in sauce. I was surprised that the rice actually come with a small bowl of vegetable soup. The whole meal was very satisfying.

You better tone down your vegetarian discussion until you've landed the job. Omnivores don't like to be reminded of what they are...

;-)

Yeah, better not tell them abt animal rights and ethics if you are applying for a job in a bio lab. Btw, if you will be working in a bio lab, wouldn't you have to make tests on animals???

"omnivores dun like to be reminded of what they are" hahaha... thats funny eda :D

Oh it's not a bio lab job I am applying. Many labs actually do not require tests on animals, it depends on the things u are working on. But animal-containing products are almost unavoidable :(

I think you cannot be too picky when choosing jobs, especially the first one. Once inside, you'll hopefully be able to influence them to change their purchasing habits. Besides, we need spies everywhere...

Wah, how did you even get into talking about vegetarianism? haha...

Next time, go by this moto...
First, infiltrate into the organisation
Second, take over.
Third, convert.

Haha, just kidding. Mind I ask what field are you in?

Meal sounds great!

i like the way you think and the way you write. Your honesty touches me and i'm so happy you spoke up about your veg- and animal-friendly ways.

More power to YOU! Everyone at my work knows i'm a veg and most of them respect me for it. The ones who don't, well... they make comments and i just laugh. That's all you can do.

i'd hug you if i could, dreamy!!

hahha... yea being a spy is cool! But I dun want to be a spy they have too many secrets which they can share with no one :)

Hmm.. my field.. usually bio research area. One of the most un-vegan jobs u can land into, but we can also do other things besides research.

Thanks for the encouragement and hug Kleo! :) Yea, I usually laugh it off too or can let them win by admiting that vegans are poor ppl with a strange diet hahaha..

Yeh, religion is the safe thing to mention as then they don't feel they're doing wrong. But don't you think poor ppl with a strange diet is pushing it a bit? Sometimes I give in to the jokes of soon also not wanting to eat plants, but well, anything more gives them false confidence. Anyhow, any job that you don't get bcs of veganism wasn't worth having in the first place, it'd be a pain to work with such ppl.

hmm... i wun think so, :) because I thought, sometimes u try to push to others it wun work, but u let them win, they wun feel attacked and when they can relax and have time to figure it out themselves :) but maybe i m wrong.

yeah, I feel ppl need to have some time to think over.. so it really isn't bad that you talked to them abt being a vegan etc. :)
