The bull who cried

Previously I put up the article written by Ajahn Brahm about a cow that cried... Now this is about a bull that cried when it was sent to slaughter - it was published in a newspaper in Hong Kong. Why do I keep putting up these posts? Because people are skeptical, they won't believe it until they see it with their own eyes. The article is in Chinese, below the English translation

Believe it or not? It really happened in Hong Kong. As previously reported by "Weekly World News", a group of workers walked a buffalo to a packaging factory. They were about to slaughter the buffalo to make steaks and beef stews. When they were close to the front door of the slaughter house, the sorrowful buffalo suddenly stopped going forward and knelt down on his two front legs. The buffalo... was all in tears.

How did he know he was going to get killed before he entered the slaughter house? He is even smarter than people.

Mr. Shiu, a butcher recalled, "When I saw this kind of so-called "stupid" animal sobbing and with his eyes in fear and sorrow, I started trembling." "I called the rest over to see. They were just as surprised. We kept pushing the buffalo forward, but he just didn't want to move and sat there crying."

Billy Fong, owner of the packaging factory said, "People thought animals didn't cry like human beings. However that buffalo really sobbed like a baby." At that time, more than ten strong men witnessed the scene and they were all touched. Those who were responsible for slaughtering even felt more touched and teared as well.

Other workers working at the same slaughter house also came to see the crying buffalo. It was all packed with people. They were all shock by this scene. Three of them said they would never forget this crying buffalo when they slaughter other animals.

When both man and fowl are crying, everyone knew that nobody could kill the buffalo. The problem was what should they do with the buffalo? In the end, they raised funds to buy this crying buffalo and sent him to a temple. Those kind monks would take care of him for life.

After the workers had made a decision, a miracle happened. A worker said, "When we promised this buffalo that we will not kill him, he started moving and followed us."

How did he understand people's words?

Mr. Shiu said "Believe it or not? This is real although it sounds unbelievable." No doubt, this buffalo changed these butchers' lives.

Cow kneeling

See the red eyes and tears and doubt no more. They are not here for us to make use of. Understanding biology and animal sentience is important. Though, this type of heart to heart communication displayed by the buffalo is more powerful and moving.

Seeing this post reminds me of my trip to myanmar back in 2003.

I was there with a tour group. We bypass some of the padi fields and came acrossed a farmer who loaded plenty of stuff onto the back of the water buffalo.

The farmer stopped when my tour mates asked if we could take a picture of him and his buffalo helper.

It was more than 36 degree celcius. The buffalo was white. When I went closer to the animal, I realised, it was tearing. I asked the farmer, why is your buffalo crying? The farmer said, its too hot. And they went off after that. I took a closed up picture of its teary eye. The scene haunted me till this day. I felt very emotional about it. I don't take beef at all since young due to religion reasons. But now, I don't take beef for a more personal reason. And as if heavens had it, I am allergic to all dairy. I was searching for vegan diet...and that is how I chanced upon this site.

Hi Anonymous, it's great you're interested in a vegan diet! I think besides it being too hot, it could be that it's suffering a lot due to the hard work :( They too feel the burder just like us... Thanks for sharing your experiences :)

Humans are a predator species; preying on animals is how we have always survived, just like all the millions of other predators on earth. We just do it in a more organized and effective fashion, for obvious reasons. You don't think the gazelle is afraid when the lions chase it across the savannah? Of course it is, but that doesn't mean the lions should just drop dead so that a couple of animals below them on the food chain may live.

I guess its when we realise we actually don't need to kill animals on such a large scale to survive as a species then maybe all this suffering might slow or even stop. Animals don't rationalize like this. I use to fish and eat all types of meat. I was able fairly easily to change my diet. Animals don't have that supermarket option. The leading US heart doctor did a tour through NZ not long ago promoting his book. How to reverse Heart desease. He was saying we shouldn't eat anything with a mother. And he could reverse major heart issues by putting people on a vegan diet. Also my mother has cancer. Even her doctor said humans could avoid major issues like cancer by eating only veg. Meat is linked to so many issues. So even doctors are telling us this.

The human species has never been a predator. We are omnivorent scavengers primarily. We don't have the physique to hunt anything without tools really. But tools or no tools, if you feel unevolved enough to "need" meat and justify it by calling yourself primitive, go ahead, but remove yourself from society and enter the wilderness unless you wish to be a hypocrite. The human race has nothing to do with the circle of life, we're outside of it now. The death-factories have nothing to do with it. Our controlled breeding of animals in order for them to become dumber and fatter with each generaiton isn't in the circle of life either. That is the way of a psuedo-evolved species with psuedo-intelligence. Once we achieve real intelligence, we will realize that the most efficient diet involves no meat at all. And that's just the objective part. Subjectively, meat is disturbingly immoral, unless you wouldn't care if we did the same things to humans. And most non-apathic, non-psychopathic humans would find that a horribly immoral idea.

Hi anonymous2, whether we are a predator species in the past is not important. What matters is what we choose to evolve into in the future. I have mentioned about this in one of my previous posts.

And thank you anonymous3 and John for replying :)

You can go ahead and de-evolve however you want.

We live in a world where death is taboo yet suffering is usually overlooked. Its not so much the death of these poor animals that will haunt our karma as it is the poor lives they were forced to live. In some cases eating animals means your saving there lives... Sounds like an oxi moron but if you eat organic meat it will ensure more animals to live long and happily. Not eating them at all only shortens the system of mass production and poor living for these animals by a fraction we dont even know about and it also doesnt ensure that ANY of them might live a better life. - Meat for thought

To whoever insinuated that a vegan diet would cause people to "de-evolve": I find your idiocy pitiful. Evolution is merely the change in hereditary characteristics over successive generations , "de-evolution" is therefore a stupid and misleading word. Evolution is not like a line of phones which gets "better" every year. Furthermore, the only reason that meat would have aided the development of the human race (which I am not denying) is that it provided more of certain nutrients which made it easier for humans to pass on their genes. These nutrients, living in a golden age as we do, are easily available through other sources and no such nutrient is only found in meat. I conclude, therefore, that you are a small-minded individual of a pathetic level of intellect.

P.S. It might interest you to know that I am not a vegan.

I hope that you, Anonymous (from March 5, 2012), realize that it was not the heavens that made you allergic to all dairy. It was the fact that human are not able to healthily digest any dairy, except that other other humans (i.e. a woman's breast milk).

I, too, have been moved by the bull who cried, however, I would never be a vegan nor a vegetarian. The reason, you ask? It is not natural. Humans were never meant to eat that way (hence why newborns and infants need animal/human fats and such to even survive).

This cow is crying because it has pink eye. A common eye infection that are transmitted by flies. It is sweet to think that this animal is crying in fear of being slaughtered but in reality, it's just an eye infection.

Please could anybody tell me who took this picture?
I would need it for charity purpose...

Thanks so much
Kind regards

Fact, animals are like us: they feel, have coplex emotions....
Fact, humans are the worst specie on earth, we are not predators like lions, tigers, snakes and so on.....none of the species above do not kill and destroy other species like humans do, the animal holocaust is now and on a scale never seen before....we call it the meat and dairy industry...is killing the animals and it is killing us....
Fact, 60% of the human deaths are caused by heart failure and strokes that are caused by the animal collesterol...
So, participating in this animal holocaust by consuming animal based food will come with the claim of your life....be compassionate or be dead!

You murderers ever thought about the massacre of plant life with your pure vegan diet? Plants keep us alive with the oxygen. Ever wondered how plants feel as you pluck them, and awaiting to be eaten? Save the plants, eat meat only.

I live in India, West Bengal and am a hindu. Riligious people here mostly don't eat beef and pork. Some don't eat them knowing that they are not healthy.Goat-meat is pretty expensive, people eat it on occasions or festivals, but then again we have to be vegetarians during most festivals. Rich people here love to copy the West, and thus our five star hotels serve European food like veal, foe-grass, i know i have not spelled it right , hope you understand. Most beef -eaters in our country are poor Muslims, since beef is cheap in our state. Thousands of cows are smuggled to Bangladesh for being slaughtered.Every Eid, i find millions of cow, goat, even camels are slaughtered. Do you have any Muslim vegan? I would like to ask some questions.

I don`t know if thae cow was crying or had an eye infection, however, the more unbelievable part of the article to me was that the workers had a change in consciousness and learned a lesson they mihgt not ever have thought about before. God works in mysterious ways. Thx.....Cheryl DeGraff

First: That is a steer. Buffalo are found in Africa.
Second: Cattle do not understand human speech.
Third: Cattle don't tear up because of emotions it because of irratation.

Yeah.. Have to call into question the intelligence of whomever wrote this article. 'He is even smarter than people'? What? Please link me to your source or at least be a little bit more in depth. As far as I'm concerned, its a smart cow. Not a genius among people. More to the topic, welcome to reality. Where ill eat whatever I want regardless of what others prefer and vice versa. If ever attacked by a lion, shall he just stop because I'm sad? Fuck no. If anyone would like to start the 'well we can rationalize and/or change the way we eat/think'. I don't live by your values, and again, vice versa. If I'm content sinking down to the level that every other predator in this world is on, so be it. If you feel that you're somehow a better human, beeing that you made a dietary change, cool. Now, I wonder how aware you vegans and such are to the conciousness of plants. If they scream in ways we can't hear will you happily starve? Or join the rest of normal thinking human beings?

"Humans are a predator species; preying on animals is how we have always survived"

You're talking about cave man times my friend, and that's part of the reason cave men had fang like teeth and now we don't need them. All you need is a b-12 vitamin and a balanced diet to not eat meet. You can replace iron, protein and everything you need with "healthier" alternatives that don't involve cruelty, and don't put more carbon into the atmosphere than we can handle.

Your comment is pretty misguided.

Animals have a keen sense of smell and their not blind. Although, health reasons like Red Eye can cause difficulties these type of stories make me want to send these industries a financial message. The asians are more brutal about it.

Your either civilized or your not. My grandparents we're both farmers. When it came time for butchering their was no abuse. It was quick and clean. All of this makes me want to give up beef. I already dumped pork.

humans, human race, human evolution, human, humans, human, humans are, humans aren't, humans, humans have, human, humans feel, humans yeah humans, humans should, humans wuhuuuuuu! what a primate!^^

We are what we eat! if what we eat is in distress then we obviously consume the distressed meat which has high levels of distressed hormones that is released at the time it is butchered.
Before even its slaughtered, you get the additional injections of chemicals which transposes the meat to "organic"!

Funny that we as humans go as far as comparing ourselves with a predator or cave man in order to justify our actions today... We are more educated & have access to more information than ever, Isn't time to use the avail information & reflect on our actions & to bring change...?
