Vegetarians in Singapore

I came across an interesting series of interviews with vegetarians in Singapore, which would give you some idea if you stay in Singapore and are thinking of turning veg, or just want to find out how it's like being a veggie here.

Will you give up meat for love? This episode interviews meat eaters and vegetarians on this topic. All the non-vegetarians interviewed will rather hold on to their meat, so for married non-veg people, it's time to clear your fridge of meat or you will always stand in second place haha.. Most of the interviewed vegetarians are fine with a non-veg partner.

Chicken in my vegetarian pasta! Meat and blunders in your vegetarian dish, most if not all vegetarians will come across this at least once - which is the case in this video as well. When I went to non-veg chinese places asking for the dish that is least likely to go wrong - stir fry vegetables, I end up with stir fry vegetables with oyster sauce most of the time, even when I had clearly instructed the waiter on it... Then comes family pressure which may set you back to square one, but this may not happen to you, it really depends on the family members.

Inch the vegetarian. Reasons why vegetarians go vegetarians - pretty much some of the standard reasons, compassion, environment, health, "it's the right thing to do", etc. Emilie Oehlers had a most interesting experience on her turning point.

Would you turn vegetarian? Most of the vegetarians in the video agree that more and more people are turning vegetarians. But most non-veg interviewed say they will never go veg. So who's right and who's wrong? I don't know. But what I know for sure is the structure of our teeth as well as anatomy resembles that of a herbivore. Millions of people in poor countries survive on a vegetarian diet, they don't eat meat like us and don't end up in a hospital waiting for a bypass.

The Stink Bean Challenge. I have to say... Petai (stink bean) is one of my favourite dish :) I love bitter gourd too, and eat them raw on occasion. But everyone has different tastes, much like I don't have a taste for chendol, thinking of chendol makes me :S

What meat dish do vegetarians miss most? I guess this will tempt a lot of people into giving up the vegetarian lifestyle, but this is largely an individual thing and may not affect you, depending on your intention to go veg. When you first start out, you may have cravings, but with time, it will go, and they will smell awful instead. Just do it. Go veg.

Well, I hope this did not turn anyone off from going veg :) If you are seriously considering a new lifestyle, and after all these videos you are still firm with your decision, you are all ready for it! Hop on the bandwagon!

Thanks for posting the videos.
I think informing and educating the public about the benefits of not eating meat for their health and the environment is as important as information we get about smoking.
Just like the rich tobacco companies advertised their products in the recent past, big food companies like KFC and McDonalds continue to advertise and sell foods that are slowly but surely making us and the earth sick.
The Vegetarian message needs to get out there so that the public can make an educated decision for their lives.
