Qilin (Kirin)

Do you know this Chinese mythical creature is a vegetarian? Despite it's fearsome look, it doesn't eat meat and walks on grass without stepping on it out of great care not to trample any small living beings. This is a creature of good omen, bringing prosperity and serenity.

It's a shame they don't worship it and all become vegetarians as I feel it is far closer to their wonderful ancient culture than eating dog is.

What, qilin is herbivore?! Wow, that I never heard before. That should be brought out more, could set a sample to many people here. Should try to make that an Olympic theme. Vegan Olympics. Hmm, how to inspire that... :-/

Oh, it is vegetarian? how come I didn't know? but then again, we usually assume Gods that we prayed to love meat...

I think it's partly because of communism which brought about it. Once communism is over, every rushed like mad to eat whatever they can.

Jari, you can go to the Beijing 2008 olympics dressed like a Qilin to be the 6th mascot representing "go veg" - chi su. So it will become "Bei Jing Huan Ying Ni Chi Su" haha...

About offerings... it reminded me of zhong yuan jie where I saw Sheng shiong offering this whole page of meat :S

Haha, that's a brilliant idea! Perhaps I'll stick around for the Olympics just for that. Must go find a Qilin suit. :-)

Good idea Zlyrica! I will suggest to the comm :)

hahaha... Jari, from what I seen from a website, you will need the following since this is how a qilin looks like: a single horn on you forehead, a yellow belly, a multicoloured back, the hooves of a horse, the body of a deer, and the tail of an ox. Of course, you may need to veganise the last three things :D

qilin is something I like very much...it also means hardworking, endurance, etc esp. good for scholars. (No way, I am not a scholar.) Now that it eats plants! Going to love it even more!! :P thanks!

Thanks for the further info anonymous! I think I may need a Qilin statue, am pretty weak in endurance especially when it comes to staying awake :)
