Shark's fin soup

This is one of the most expensive dishes sold and you will usually see it during wedding dinners. But this is also one of the very cruel dishes. Shark's fin soup, as the name reveals, is made from the fins of sharks. The fin is cooked until they separate into needle-like cartilages. The shark fin is harvested by cutting the fins off a shark and throwing it back into the sea and letting it die. It's a shame that Singapore is one of the main shark fin trading centers.

Here's a video on shark finning:

Acres, an animal rights group in Singapore, together with Sea Shepherd Conservation Society and Vegetarian Society (Singapore) will be holding in a talk and discussion at the library@Orchard debating the question “Shark's Fin Soup: Can We Truly Eat Without Guilt?” this Saturday, 3-4pm. You can learn more about the consumption of shark's fin soup there.

Here's the location: 391 Orchard Road, #05-22/26, Podium Block, Ngee Ann City

And that is yet another disgusting thing that us humans do to animals every single day. It's very depressing :(

Yes.. It's sad.. but at the very least, millions of veg*ns are not contributing to this, it's a good thing to think about :)

Latest issue of National Geograpic Society's magazine has a long article about the state of the oceans. Depressing read, I must warn you...
